Remembering the Boston Marathon

Excitement fills the air in Boston every marathon weekend. We gather in the restaurants and bars to remember the legends from years past. Especially proud of our local runners, we remember Joan Benoit, a fellow New England native who won in 1979 and 1983. And, we will never forget the contagious smile of Johnny Kelley, who competed a record 61 times and won in 1935 and 1945. The marathon doesn’t seem complete without him here.

Always inspiring, Dick and Rick Hoyt showed us all that we are only as limited as we think we are. Watching Dick Hoyt push his son Rick across the finish line for so many years has melted even the frostiest hearts in Boston.

But, the names on our hearts this weekend are the souls that we lost on April 15, 2013: Martin William Richard, 8, Krystle Marie Campbell, 29, Lu Lingzi, 23 and Sean A. Collier, 27 (April 18). Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and friends. They may be gone, but they are not forgotten.
